For Youth
Preparing Our Young People for Success
Whether planning a community event or dreaming up a new keychain design, children and teens are encouraged to explore their passions in our Makerspace, Makerspace PRO, and Youth Summer Program.
Makerspace Education & Visual Spacial Literacy
At MLCS, our Makerspace Education initiative engages children and teens in East Boston with hands-on, cognitively rich learning environments designed to build visual-spatial literacy—a foundational skill that supports long-term success in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).
Through building activities, puzzles, 3D CAD tools, and creative problem-solving, participants strengthen spatial reasoning, collaboration, and resilience. Our programs are intentionally playful, inclusive, and culturally responsive — providing our local young people with safe spaces to explore, learn, and express themselves.

Maverick Makers Pro
Our teen workforce development program, Maverick Makers PRO, offers paid opportunities for young people ages 14–18 to design, prototype, and sell original products. Our teens are gaining valuable experience in product development, marketing, sales, and financial literacy. All their products —such as custom keychains, charms, and journals—are sold at local community markets, with 100% of proceeds reinvested into teen wages and programming. All the participants are paid for every aspects of their hard work and passion -- from production, to community engagement, and events.
Youth Summer Program
In partnership with the City of Boston’s SuccessLink program, we will employ over 35 young people this summer! All our participants will contribute to community projects and gain career readiness skills while giving back through service and civic engagement. This program not only equips our youth with future-ready skills—it also fosters confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging in their communities.
