Digital Literacy: Bridging Language & Digital Divides
The digital and language divide keeps many skilled individuals from reaching their job goals. In partnership with Transformational Prison Project (TPP) and Mutual Aid Eastie, we offer digital literacy classes in Spanish so participants can learn the tech skills needed to attend digital literacy integrated English language classes for beginners, and then move on to intermediate level courses. We are currently the only digital literacy class offered in Spanish in East Boston.
We also offer digital literacy classes in English to help participants understand how to use tech to search and find a job, learn new skills through online platforms, and better utilize tech to improve their lives.
Most of the individuals in our digital literacy classes are either adult immigrants, or folks who are re-entering the world after serving time in prison.
English as Second Language (ESOL)
English Innovations is an English class and civic education model that integrates English language learning and a collaborative, supportive classroom environment with online tools that enable self-paced, independent learning. Two cycles are offered per year in the fall and in the spring, and facilitated by our ESOL Coach, Antonio Lobo, who has been with us since 2016. Advancing Economic Security
The MLCS Computer Lab has been a staple for the Maverick Landing community since our inception. A 5-station lab with overflow capacity for up to 10 is open from 1pm to 6pm for open access to work on personal business and development. Likewise, we support Maverick residents with job search, resume assistance, and job placement by appointment. Our workforce program helps participants position themselves with the skills needed to navigate most employment processes. Call us today to set up an appointment at 617-569-5146.
