Food Recovery Warehouse Lead

Location: Roxbury, MA

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM–2:00 PM

Compensation: $30.00 per hour

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary

Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS) seeks a reliable, experienced, and hands-on Food Recovery

Warehouse Lead to oversee daily warehouse operations supporting food rescue, storage, packing, and

distribution activities. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, working alongside

volunteers, driving agency vehicles, and handling rescued produce that may need to be sorted, composted, or discarded due to spoilage.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Open and prepare warehouse operations beginning at 5:30 AM.

  • Supervise, support, and coordinate the work of 2 warehouse staff members and interns.

  • Drive MLCS vans and box trucks for food pickups and deliveries.

  • Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently.

  • Receive, inspect, sort, and organize incoming food products.

  • Assemble produce bags and food orders for community distribution.

  • Maintain accurate inventory, storage systems, and product counts.

  • Train, coordinate, and work alongside volunteers.

  • Inspect rescued food and produce for quality and safety.

  • Sort, compost, and dispose of spoiled produce as needed.

  • Operate pallet jacks and warehouse equipment safely.

  • Maintain clean, organized warehouse, cooler, and storage areas.

  • Follow food safety, vehicle safety, and workplace safety procedures.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of warehouse, logistics, food recovery, distribution, or related experience.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.

  • Ability to safely operate cargo vans and box trucks.

  • Comfortable working independently and with volunteers.

  • Comfortable handling, sorting, and disposing of spoiled produce and food waste.

  • Ability to repeatedly lift and move up to 50 pounds.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Workplace Expectations

  • Personal cell phone use during work hours is prohibited except for work-related communications, emergencies, and authorized breaks.

  • Use of a cell phone while operating a vehicle is prohibited except through legally compliant hands-free communication for work-related purposes.

  • Employees are expected to maintain professionalism, focus, and attention to safety throughout their shift.

  • Consistent attendance, teamwork, and accountability are essential.

  • Knowledge of Boston-area food pantry systems, food distribution networks, and community food access programs is a plus.
