Food Program Assistant
On-Site | Part-Time
Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS) is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Food Program Assistant to support our food access programming in East Boston. This role is essential to the daily operations of our food programs and will serve as the secondary delivery driver and on-the-ground support for food distribution efforts.
The Food Program Assistant 2 plays a key role in food sourcing, logistics, relationship building with food partners, volunteer training, and inventory tracking. This position requires strong communication skills, comfort with physical work, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, community-centered environment.
Responsibilities
Food Pickups & Deliveries
Serve as the secondary delivery driver for MLCS food programs
Pick up food from partner sites
Deliver food to MLCS partner sites on Wednesdays
Support on-site deliveries and redistribution on Thursdays
Delivery days currently include Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays (subject to change)
Inventory Management & Quality Control
Track all food pickups, including item type, quantity, total weight (lbs), distribution breakdown (MLCS vs. partner sites)
Conduct quality checks during pickups and before distribution to identify and discard spoiled or unsafe food following program guidelines
Maintain accurate inventory records for food and program supplies, including bags, gloves, cleaning supplies, sticky notes and other materials
Vehicle Care & Maintenance
Maintain cleanliness of the delivery vehicle interior
Monitor vehicle condition and address basic, cosmetic maintenance needs
Communication & Relationship Building
Maintain strong working relationships with food partners and donors
Serve as a professional and friendly representative of MLCS across all platforms and in person
Take part in meetings that pertain to job duties
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license and comfort driving a delivery van
Ability to lift and move food boxes (up to ~50 lbs)
Strong organizational and communication skills
Comfortable using digital tools for tracking, communication, and data entry
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience in food access, logistics, warehouse, or community-based work preferred
Bilingual skills a plus, but not required
