MLCS Wishes You Happy Holidays!

As we close out the year, everyone at Maverick Landing Community Services  wishes you and your loved ones a joyful, peaceful, and healthy holiday season.

We also invite you to continue supporting our community by standing with the nonprofits that help fill critical gaps and make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors. Your support—whether through time, resources, or advocacy—helps keep our community strong and connected.

Empowering Our Community:

MLCS 2025 Highlights

Adult & Youth Education

This year, MLCS strengthened our community through education and empowerment. Our ESL classes served over 130 students, helping adults gain essential language skills.

Our Digital Literacy program reached 30+ participants, including adult immigrants and individuals reentering society, equipping them with crucial skills for independence and opportunity.

We also hosted youth and community workshops—like participatory budgeting and placemaking—that brought residents together to learn and engage.

Together, these programs make a lasting impact by empowering individuals and building a stronger, more connected community.

Celebrating a Year of Creativity with Ñ Press

Since opening, Ñ Press has hosted numerous workshops, risograph printing sessions, and art events that brought neighbors together, fostering connection through art, language, and shared cultural experiences. We are grateful for the incredible energy and participation from our community. While we say goodbye to Ñ Press in 2026, we look forward to its evolution through the opening of a next-generation community studio.

We extend our deepest thanks to the Richard and Susana Smith Family Foundation for their generous capital grant, which will equip the new community studio with state-of-the-art advanced laser cutters and 3D printers, expanding creative and technological opportunities.

A Year Full of Powerful Community Events

This summer, MLCS brought the community together through unforgettable events. Juneteenth united neighbors and local organizations in a joyful celebration of culture, connection, and collaboration—one of our most memorable annual events.

A Year Full of Leadership, Creativity,

and Skills for a Rapidly Changing World

Our Youth Programs engaged 30+ young participants in initiatives like Maverick Makers Pro, focused on supporting young participants to develop leadership, creativity, and skills for a future workforce.

The Maverick Makers Pro allows youth to create, market, and sell their own products, while our Maker Space After-School Program offered STEAM activities, homework support, and opportunities to build friendships and a sense of belonging.

In addition, our Seasonal and Weekly Kickbacks, created and led by MLCS youth, provided dynamic, seasonally themed activities that encouraged creativity, peer connection, and youth leadership, fostering safe and engaging spaces for young people to come together and build community.

Fighting Hunger in East Boston

At MLCS, we’ve stepped up to meet the growing needs of our community during challenging times. In response to recent changes to SNAP eligibility, recertification delays, and rising housing and food costs, we’ve doubled our food distribution—ensuring more families have access to the support they need.

Through strong partnerships across East Boston, we provide free and accessible food at multiple locations, helping neighbors stay nourished and supported. This year, our expanded efforts have made a tangible difference, connecting families with essential resources and demonstrating the power of community care. 🌿💛

Resident services are a Priority

At MLCS, the mental health of our community is a top priority. This year, in addition to supporting Maverick Landing residents with essential programs like Workforce Development, Housing Development, and Resident Services, we have introduced initiatives that promote the overall well-being of our members.

Programs such as Zumba, Seasonal Cooking Classes, and Mandela Yoga Classes not only support physical health but also strengthen mental health, fostering balance, connection, and wellness throughout our community. Our monthly Community Restorative Justice Circles and All Men’s Community Circles engage youth and adults alike, creating safe spaces for dialogue, connection, and collective healing.
