The MLCS’ Grab & Go Produce hub is not a food pantry or food bank, but a community-based affordable produce hub that rescues fresh surplus vegetable and fruits, making it available to households at deeply reduced prices.
A Community Match to Build a More Affordable Food Future
For decades, families across Boston have relied on affordable produce access through neighborhood-based distribution systems rooted in dignity, health, and community.
Now, Maverick Landing Community Services is expanding that vision through:
the new Grab & Go Produce Hub in East Boston
neighborhood produce markets
affordable $5 produce bags
rescued fresh fruits and vegetables
expanded access to healthy plant-based food across Boston neighborhoods
From Warehouse to Neighborhood
To support the growth of our food recovery and distribution programs, MLCS has invested in dedicated warehouse space within a large industrial facility which was a former Amazon warehouse. This space is shared with other food rescue organizations.
The concrete and steel-beam warehouse features three loading docks, allowing for efficient receiving, sorting, and distribution of rescued food. MLCS currently leases 20 pallet position of storage capacity, providing secure space for its plant-based food and artisan bread recovery. This infrastructure investment strengthens our ability to recover and distribute tens of thousands of pounds of healthy food each month while creating a collaborative environment alongside other organizations working to reduce food waste and improve food access across Greater Boston.
All of the bags for the Grab and Go are made daily at the warehouse and delivered to MLCS. The warehouse spaces also accommodates delivery to institutional partners and supports easy transport to over 30 pop up markets all over greater Boston.
Help Us Launch This Next Chapter
To help launch this next chapter, a community donor has pledged to match donations up to $150,000.
That means:
A $25 donation becomes $50
A $100 donation becomes $200
A monthly gift helps sustain twice the amount of produce access
This is more than fundraising. It is an investment in a healthier, more affordable, and less wasteful food system.
